Belokurikha

  The resort "Belokurikha" (Altai territory) has received the right to use well-known deposit of mineral waters 
The right to use well-known in Altai deposit Iskrovskoe of mineral waters is given to Joint-Stock Company "Resort Belokurikha".
Open competition on the right of extraction of medical waters was declared in spring of this year and should take place on July, 16. However only one organization has taken part in it - "Resort Belokurikha". According to experts of Central administrative board of natural resources and preservation of the environment, according to the legislation such competition admits not taken place. But taking into consideration that all materials declared by a resort are recognized economically comprehensible and corresponding to conditions of competition, right of use Iskrovskoe deposit is transferred to "Resort Belokurikha". INFORMATION: Iskrovskoe deposit of mineral waters is reconnoitered in 1991 for development of a resort Belokurikha. Underground waters lie on depth from 61 up to almost 500 meters, they are characterized as feebly radon, subthermal (temperature of +20 C), feebly mineralized, sodium and siliceous. The maximal extraction of water can make no more than 840 cubic

The Belokurikha is a health-resort of federal significance located at the foot of the Altay mountains, about 250 m above sea level, in the valley of the mountain river Belokurikha. 

The southern part of the health-resort is framed by high mountains, covered by ever-green trees. Mountain ash, cherry trees, maral bushes, rasperry-canes, currant bushes, strawberry plants, and a wide range of wild flowers all grow on the slopes, white granite rocks crown the mountains peaks. On sunny days the mountain tops are wrapped in a light, semi-transparent blue haze. Here and there granite rocks jut out over the tall pines, silver firs and larches. The landscape is given life by the mountain river Belokurikha. At the upper parts of the river huge rocks are scattered, thus forming several small waterfalls. A terrific view is revealed at the top of the nearest mountains from where you can see the big Altay mountain range and its flat foothills. 

Belokurikha has more sunny days than the more well-known holiday resorts by the Black Sea. 

The climate of the health-resort is characterized by a mild winter cool summers and warm weather in spring and autumn. IT is rarely windy. The content of ion in the air is higher than average, which accounts for high spirits! The sanatorium located at the health-resort are the "Belokurikha", "Siberia", "Katun", "Russia" and the "Altay-West". 

The sanatorium "Belokurikha" is located at the very entrance of the health-resort zone and accommodates 700 guests. The health centre offers medical treatment of cardio-vascular diseases, diseases of the nervous system, skin diseases, gynecological illnesses and disturbances of the muscular/motor-functions and of the metabolism. All the above cases are cured by traditional methods In Belokurikha. The health-resort takes special pride in its 3 rehabilitation centres, two of which are in the sanatorium "Belokurikha". One is a rehab clinic for women, and the other is for the rehabilitation of patients with cardiac-diseases. 

The health centre "Siberia" is situated an the heart of the health resort and is designed to house 400 people. The types of diseases fisted above are also treated here, as well as sexually transmitted diseases with men. The third rehab clinic the centre for medical and social rehabilitation - is in the "Siberia" sanatorium. It conducts the complex treatment of the early stages of a disease; the so-called "pro-illness state". 

Chronical is also treated here. The aim of the centre's activity is the recuperation of the functions of a healthy organism, and the repetition of the development of chronic diseases. This particularly concerns people whose profession can cause health problems. 

The "Katun" health centre is situated at the most favourable place of the health resort, and is characterized by marvellous beauty and a higher than usual concentration of negatively charged ions in the ail. In the close vicinity of the sanatorium there is also a 900 m long alpine ski-slope, where one can hire skiing equipment. 

There are some resorts, with healing springs of radon waters and mud in the territory. The resort of federal importance "Belokurikha" uses springs with thermal lightly mineralized radon waters with the high concentration of a silicic acid. Curative mud is widely used of the health resort "Stepnoye Ozero". On the basis of herbs a lot of pure tinctures and decoctions, balsams and sea-buckthorn oil are produced.

There are many opportunities for development of non-conventional forms of tourism in the region. There are also a lot of monuments of architecture, culture, archeological, and ethnologic nature. Mountains are a fine place for climbers and mountain skiers. Bear, maral, elk, fox, wild boar, and wood grouse hunting is a fascinating kind of relaxation. Tourism is one of the most promising sectors of economy of the Kray with great potential for fast development.
